Queensland Government Rapid Response Teams

What are the Queensland Government Rapid Response Teams?

The Queensland Government is working with industry and unions to oversee the Rapid Response Teams to ensure a quick and local approach to job losses that are a result of the current global economic downturn.

Who is involved?

The Rapid Response Teams initiative is a collaboration between the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation, the Department of Education and Training and the Department of Communities.

The collaboration also extends to Federal Government agencies: Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research/AusIndustry, Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations and Centrelink.

The teams support retrenched workers and assists them in the transition to new employment.

In what areas are the Rapid Response teams located?

In response to retrenchment announcements, Rapid Response Teams have been established across Queensland. These locations include Mackay/Emerald, Rockhampton/Gladstone, Townsville, Mt Isa, Cairns, Maryborough/Bundaberg, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane Northside/Caboolture, Brisbane Southside/Ipswich and Toowoomba.

What help is available?

A hotline (free call 1800 035 749) is available for workers who want to know what Federal and State Government assistance is available.

Retrenched workers can register for referral to support services from the three Government agencies through the hotline. This includes referring workers details to potential jobs.

The Queensland Government also offers programs and initiatives that can be accessed by affected workers for advice, assistance and retraining opportunities:

  • the Employment support services for job seekers factsheet outlines the range of services available; and
  • the Rapid Response Teams process outlines the services and processes of the agencies involved with the Rapid Response Teams.

The Federal Government also offers a range of employment services including the Job Network, assistance from Centrelink, and assistance in claiming redundancy entitlements.

Who do I contact for more information?

For further information, contact the Queensland Government worker assistance hotline on 1800 035 749.
